Privacy Policy

Tarjemha is an unofficial browser extension that translates song lyrics line by line, in real time, on Anghami Web. It is a personal project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Anghami. This policy explains exactly what the extension does and does not do with your data.

The short version

Tarjemha has no servers and collects no personal data. It does not track you, show ads, or send anything to its developer. Lyrics and their translations exist only in your browser's memory and are discarded when the tab closes. The only things saved on your device are your own settings.

What is stored on your device

• Your preferences: target language, display mode, transliteration toggle, and translation-engine choice.
• If you choose the bring-your-own-key (BYOK) engine, the API key you enter is stored locally in your browser's extension storage.

This data lives only in local extension storage on your device. It is never logged, never synced to any account, and never transmitted to the developer.

Your API key is used for one thing only: it is attached as an authentication header to the translation requests your browser sends to the endpoint you configured. It is never sent anywhere else, and the developer of Tarjemha never receives it.

Lyrics and translations

Tarjemha reads lyrics that are already visible in your own Anghami session in order to translate them. To produce a translation, the lyric text is sent to the translation service you have configured:

• The free default engine sends lyric text to Google's public translation endpoint.
• If you configure your own key, lyric text is sent only to the endpoint you specify (for example an OpenAI-compatible or Anthropic API endpoint).

These requests go directly from your browser to the translation provider. Tarjemha does not proxy, store, or receive a copy of them. The provider's own privacy policy governs how it handles the text you send. Translations are cached in your browser's memory only, per tab and per song, and are discarded when the tab closes. Nothing is ever written to disk, localStorage, or any database.

Permissions

• storage — to save your preferences and (optionally) your API key locally.
• Access to play.anghami.com — so the extension can read the on-screen lyrics and display translations there.
• Access to the translation endpoints (Google, OpenAI, Anthropic) — so translation requests can be sent to the engine you choose.

Data we do not collect

Tarjemha does not collect or sell personal or financial information, health data, browsing history, location, or any analytics. It has no backend and no way to receive your data.
